Optimizing Enterprise Offerings for SMB Procurement with Data-Driven Insights

Our client, a prominent enterprise technology provider, sought to enhance its understanding of how small and medium businesses (SMBs) manage supplier relationships, specifically focusing on the procurement-to-payment process. The goal was to refine their Enterprise Offerings solution to align with market demands and buyer preferences across various industries and regions.

Our Approach:

We utilized our multi-method research framework, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative methodologies to gather comprehensive insights into procurement behaviors, challenges, and needs from SMBs. Our vertically integrated approach ensured that we managed key parts of the research lifecycle, including expert recruitment and data integration, which provided an accurate and timely understanding of the client’s target market.

Research Methodology

1. Immersion & Initial Analysis

At the beginning of the study, we conducted a deep immersion phase to examine prior research and data, ensuring our survey was built upon existing knowledge. We brainstormed hypotheses and frameworks to guide our research and aligned on strategic goals, ensuring our approach was fully in sync with the client’s business objectives.

2. Qualitative Exploration

In this phase, we used qualitative concept tests to engage with key decision-makers, influencers, and end-users in the SMB space. We tested defined features, compared them with competitor solutions, and explored how enterprise stakeholders engage with procurement solutions. This enabled us to uncover critical features that aligned with client priorities, such as scalability, compliance, ROI, and integration needs.

Our flexible qualitative methodology included a combination of 1:1 interviews, stakeholder dyads, and moderated roundtables, ensuring that we captured a diverse range of perspectives based on job roles and specific procurement functions.

3. Behavioral Data Integration

We analyzed behavioral data across multiple channels, including CRM data, website interactions, and product usage logs. This helped us uncover real-world patterns in how SMBs engage with products, identify friction points, and understand key value-driving behaviors. We applied data-driven hypotheses to validate product-market fit and align survey findings with actual product engagement.

4. Product-Market Fit Survey

Our Product-Market Fit survey used advanced techniques such as MaxDiff and Conjoint Analysis to evaluate the appeal and value of different product features. We profiled respondents based on their role in the buying process, company size, and technology familiarity. The survey focused on feature prioritization, decision criteria, and perceived product gaps, offering insights into the product’s alignment with market needs.

Key questions in the survey assessed respondents’ familiarity with the product, their satisfaction with existing solutions, and the trade-offs they would make between cost, features, and benefits.

5. Advanced Analytics & Measurement

We integrated advanced analytics to process both open-ended survey responses and external feedback sources like support tickets and success call notes. Using thematic analysis, we identified product-related themes that influenced buyer behavior, including usability, integration, and compliance. We also utilized MaxDiff to model feature preferences, helping prioritize development and messaging strategies.

6. Willingness to Pay & Concept Testing

In parallel with the survey, we explored the willingness to pay for specific features through a premium pricing exercise. Respondents assessed various features such as installation time, performance, and sustainability to determine how much more they would be willing to pay for specific product benefits. This insight was invaluable in shaping the final product offering and pricing structure.

We also conducted concept testing through video demonstrations to gauge initial appeal and adoption likelihood for different feature bundles.

Results & Impact

The research uncovered critical insights that empowered our client to refine their Enterprise Offerings solution based on actual market demand. Key findings included:

The insights gained from the survey also revealed that SMBs preferred solutions with easy implementation and faster deployment. Our analysis of behavioral data and survey feedback confirmed that a streamlined onboarding experience was essential to increasing adoption rates.

Conclusion

By combining multi-method research, behavioral analytics, and advanced measurement techniques, we were able to provide our client with a clear roadmap for improving their Enterprise Offerings solution. The survey findings not only refined product features but also helped shape the go-to-market strategy, ensuring that the solution resonated strongly with SMB decision-makers.

This comprehensive approach helped our client optimize their product offering to better meet the demands of SMBs, positioning them for greater success in the procurement and supplier management market.
